In the early hours of March 24, 1978, a break-in occurred at the Truman Presidential Library. A guard noticed suspicious activity involving two vehicles. While distracted by a woman from one car, thieves from another vehicle broke into the building, triggering the alarm. The guard was unable to stop them due to locked doors. The thieves stole valuable Middle Eastern swords and daggers, escaping in under a minute. The stolen items, heavily encrusted with precious stones, were worth around a million dollars at the time.
