Union General Sherman and his troops captured Atlanta, leaving destruction in their wake. A Union soldier from Ohio found a copy of the Bill of Rights in North Carolina's capital and took it home. In 1866, he sold it to Charles Shotwell for $5. Shotwell moved to Indiana and displayed the document over his mantle. The Bill of Rights remained in the Shotwell family until the late 1990s when it was sold to Wayne Pratt for $200,000.
