Nelson Mandela, born in 1918, was a key figure in the fight against apartheid in South Africa. Initially involved in non-violent protests with the ANC, he later advocated for armed resistance. Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years, during which he became a global symbol of anti-apartheid resistance. Released in 1990, he helped end apartheid and became South Africa's first black president in 1994. Mandela's presidency focused on reconciliation and nation-building. After retiring, he continued to work on global issues through initiatives like The Elders. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.
