On June 20, 1789, at Versailles, the deputies of the Third Estate swore the Tennis Court Oath, vowing not to separate until a constitution was established. Facing financial difficulties, King Louis XVI convened the Estates General in May, involving the clergy, nobility, and the Third Estate. Due to unfair voting, the Third Estate formed the National Assembly on June 13. When their meeting room was closed, they relocated to a nearby building and swore the oath. This act was significant as a collective action against the king. Eventually, King Louis XVI ordered the remaining nobles to join the National Assembly, closing the Estates General.
