Sea snakes are venomous reptiles found in tropical and subtropical waters, mainly in the Indian and Western Pacific Oceans. They have unique adaptations like flattened tails and nostrils with flaps. True sea snakes are fully aquatic, while sea kraits can go on land. They are benthic foragers, feeding on fish and crabs, and have specialized respiration methods. Despite being highly venomous, they are not aggressive towards humans. Sea snakes can dive deep and stay submerged for long periods. They hydrate by drinking freshwater from the ocean's surface after rain.
