The local population is facing severe economic hardships, living without food and money. Tripoli, a city 80 kilometers north of Beirut, is a frequent battleground for Sunni militants and Alawite supporters of the Syrian regime. Recently, militants have targeted the army, accusing it of collaborating with Hezbollah. The violence has resulted in civilian casualties and the closure of educational institutions. Tripoli has been enduring the effects of the Syrian conflict for three years.
