Carlos Mayorga, a candidate for the Mexican federal deputy position, began his campaign in a coffin to highlight the deaths caused by COVID-19 and organized crime violence. The pandemic has resulted in over 200,000 deaths in Mexico, and violence has claimed more than 300,000 lives since 2006. Mayorga's district includes the violent Juárez Valley. The election campaign, shadowed by COVID-19 and violence, has already seen 16 candidates killed.
