Pershing. At first they were used to do work no one else wanted to do like loading & unloading ships and digging toilets in the ground. General Pershing wanted to keep all the American fighting forces together under an American General however he did not care to do the same thing for them. He turned them over to the French to command. The French awarded them many medals for bravery only to be overlooked by their own country. They became known as one of the most decorated unit in all of the entire United States Army only to come home and be forgotten about in United States history.
