What does nullification of federal law mean?

I was involved in the South Carolina "nullification crisis". I did not let them get away with it. South Carolina had to enforce the tariff on British goods. I even threatened to hang my vice president, John Calhoun, because he supported South Carolina and nullification.

This was the end of the Trail of Tears.

I warned Americans to not join political parties and not make treaties with foreign nations. (My farewell address (speech) to the nation).

The XYZ affair was a problem during my years as president. The French wanted a bribe before they would negotiate a treaty with the United States. Mr.X, Mr.Y, and Mr.Z. It proved to be an embarrassment for me and the United States.

I bought the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 from the French emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte. I paid only 4 cents an acre and almost doubled the size of the United States.

This court case made it clear that the Native Americans could not be removed from their reservations east of the Mississippi River. It would be an illegal removal.
