Fill in the Blank

To build oyster reefs, you will first need to grow baby oysters. To do this, adult oysters are placed in tanks filled with warm water which tricks the oysters into thinking it is spring, when they naturally produce larvae. After a few weeks, the larvae sprout an appendage and they latch onto hard surfaces like rocks. The best place for an oyster to attach to is on another oyster. Used oyster shells can be obtained from restaurants. Once the shells are rid of harmful organisms, the shells are placed in mesh bags and lowered into tanks were the larvae can attach to the shells. Once they attach to the shells, you can take these bags with oyster larvae and place them on the seafloor near the shore. _Mar 2020, SuperScience

Fill in the Blank

Wildfires can cause the destruction of land filled with beautiful plants, animals, and trees. However, wildfires can also be beneficial to trees and forests. Some trees can only reproduce after a fire. Aspen and birch trees need fire for their seeds to sprout roots. Pine tree cones need fire to melt the pitch that protects the seeds inside the cone. The ash that is left behind after a wildfire, actually adds nutrients to the soil. Then, new grasses may grow which are good for deer and other animals to eat. Aso you can see, there are also a few benefits to wildfires. - Deb Hanson, TPT

We hear talk about greenhouse gases that weakens our atmosphere's ability to let the heat from the sun escape earth. Many modern conveniences, like automobiles, emit toxic gases into the air we breath. One solution to this growing problem is to walk or ride a bike whenever possible. Walking or riding a bike reduces toxic emissions released into the air by about three pounds per mile. Additionally, bikes do not need other toxic products like brake and transmission fluids, or antifreeze; which create more pollution. Walking or riding bikes are just a few simple ways to help improve the air we breathe.
