First, states of being can use either of two verbs in Spanish:

• SER (to be) : yo soy, tú eres, usted es, ella es, él es, nosotros somos, ellos son, ustedes son

• ESTAR (to be): yo estoy, tú estás, usted está, ella está, él está, nosotros, estamos, ellos están, ustedes están

• Notice that both Ser and Estar mean "to be" as in "he wants to be rich"

• in English there are not 10 states of being, but 3: am , is, are
