Conjugating Verbs

• when we conjugate verbs, we change the verb to agree with the subject in the sentence.

• the subject is the who or what is doing the action in the sentence.

• the infinitive of a verb is the original form of the verb. In Spanish, there are AR, ER, and IR verbs. The infinitive forms of verbs in Spanish will either end in AR, ER, IR.

Verb Examples

• Hablar - to speak

• Comer - to eat

• Vivir - to live

Subject Pronouns - you must be able to identify the subject or subject pronoun in a sentence in order to conjugate the verb correctly

• Yo - I

• Tú - you (informal)

• Él - he

• Ella - she

• Usted - you (informal)

How to conjugate regular AR verbs - we'll use hablar as an example

• Yo hablo - I talk

• Tú hablas - You talk

• Él habla - He talks

• Ella habla - She talks

• Usted habla - You talk (formal)

How to conjugate regular ER verbs - we'll use comer as an example

• Yo como - I eat

• Tú comes - You eat

• Él come - He eats

• Ella come - She eats

• Usted come - You eat (formal)

How to conjugate regular IR verbs - we'll use vivir as an example
