Measure word:

indicate an amount of something

Common example in our life: liter; cup; bottle; gallon;

• one cup of coffee
• one bottle of water
• one gallon of gas

Culture difference:

China: using measure word to indicate amount of people

America: we don't have measure word for people. we won't say one XX person.

gè: 个 measure word for indicating amount of people

     

zhāng: 张 measure word for indicating amount of flat objects

Measure word Structure

(Same as English-- ex. one cup of coffee)

Number + Measure + Something/Somebody

Difference between “两 liǎng” and “二 èr”

Same: they bother means "two"

Difference:

We use “两 liǎng” , when we indicate the amount of something: two people, two brothers, two cup of coffee, two cars.....

we use “二 èr”, when we are counting number: one two three four five.....(一，二，三，四，五....)
