How do you make a French sentence negative?

• You need to place two words around the conjugated verb. (the verb that agrees with the subject)

• the two words are ne...pas

• Example: Je ne regarde pas la télé.

Take the positive sentence and make it negative

Rita voyage souvent. First you have to locate the verb. Second you have to place ne...pas around the verb. So your negative sentence will look like this: Rita ne voyage pas souvent.

Other negative expressions are:

• ne... jamais = never

• ne... rien = nothing

• ne... personne = no one
