DAICHI

Propaganda is a term for one-to-many communication, that promotes a point of view or political cause.

• manipulate the readers’ or viewers’ reason and emotion

  
  

• persuade to believe in something or someone, buy an item, or vote a certain way

• used to influence opinions, emotion, attitudes, or behavior

• used to spread ideas that further becomes a cause a political, commercial, religious or civil cause

Name-calling

Direct name-calling is a direct attack on an opponent. 

Testimonial

Refers when some respected celebrity (or alternatively someone generally hated) or a well-known person claims that an idea or product is good (or bad).  

Card Stacking refers when only those facts and details that support their argument. 

It focuses on the best features and leaves out lies about problems.

Bandwagon refers to influencing people by telling them how everyone is using the same producT.

This encourages people to join the crowd, and take the same course of action.

Plain Folk uses regular people to sell products.

A technique that works in a way to establish that the speaker is regular and ordinary and has the same views and opinions as the people he is appealing to. 

Glittering Generalities are vague, broad statements that will connect with the audience's beliefs and values.

IDENTIFYING PROPAGANDA DEVICES

Referring to the photos/videos on the next slide, identify the propaganda device/technique used. Then, one student will be asked to explain the reason.
