Importance of Law
Govern and regulate the conduct of persons, both natural (humans) and artificial (corporations)
Provide structure in the society.
Prevent lawlessness and anarchy.
Provide rules and standards by which to judge the behaviour of individuals who come into conflict with others.

Kinds of Laws
As to Nature
a. Substantive law provides for the rights and duties of persons in relations to other persons and states. Example: Revised Penal Code and Civil Code
b. Procedural or remedial law constitutes the set of rules governing the proceedings in court. Examples: Rules of Court and Revised Rules in Administrative cases in the civil service.

Kinds of Law
As to Scope
a. General Law embraces a class of subjects or places and does not omit any subjects or places naturally belonging to such class.
b. Special Law relates to a particular person or things of a class. In case of conflict between general and specific laws, the specific law prevails.

a. It is a body of individuals (legilators) selected to formulate, amend or repeal laws. It can be unicameral or bicameral.
b. It is essential to the proper functioning of a society.

a. Senate - 24 senators elected directly by the people
- Lead by the Senate President
b. House of Representatives - More than 250 congressmen by the people of their own districts. about 20 % are party-list representatives.
