For new debate topics you should consider a couple of things:
Will your audience become invested in the topic?
Will your audience understand the topic?
Does your topic contain energetic or funny potential to help engage the audience?
Could your topic offend the audience or cause them to feel uncomfortable?
Will your topic become inappropriate for school at any point?
