    • ​ex: rīvus, rīvī, m.

    • ex: fīcus, fīcī, f.

    • ex: puer, puerī, m.

    • ex: ager, agrī, m.

    • ex: templum, templī, n.

Trends

  • Nominatives end in: -us, -r, or -um

    • All 2nd ​decl. nouns whose nominative is -um are neuter gender (coming soon in Ch.4)

  • Characterized by o sounds.

    • the o has, over time, morphed into some u sounds.

    • ī sometimes swallows the o sound.

  • Majority of nouns are masculine, though the other genders do appear
