What is polysyndeton?

It is the use of a conjunction such as "and," "for," "or," "but," or "nor" in succession to separate parts of a list, especially when commas can be used.

What is an asyndeton?

​The opposite of polysyndeton, an asyndeton is a stylistic choice in which commas or another form of punctuation is used to separate a list without conjunctions.

This is when people, places, ideas, or concepts are placed parallel, or side by side, in order to emphasize their contrasts or comparison.

Ex. In the "Godfather," when Michael Corleone's son is being baptized, this vision of family love is juxtaposed with violent murders being carried out at Michael's command.​
