El Imperfecto

Repaso de los apuntes

●The imperfect tense is the 2nd past tense. It’s used for actions in the past

that don’t have a specific beginning or end (ambiguous time period) or

happened repeatedly.

●The major context clues that indicate the imperfect are “would” or “used to”

do something. However, the imperfect tense can also be translated the

same way the preterite is. You tell the difference based on other context

clues like how many times the action happened, or words like ayer, anoche,

de vez en cuando, or frequentemente

Examples:

I used to walk to that park every day

I walked in that park yesterday

PRETERITE

I walked in that park for years

One time I walked in that park.

I would walk in that park with my friend.

The imperfect is easy to conjugate because there are only 2 sets of endings for
every verb except for the 3 irregulars.
