Spanish contractions

a + el = al , de + el = del

REVIEW OF SPANISH CONTRACTIONS AL AND DEL.

• a contracts with the article el to form al

• de contracts with the article el to form del

• No contractions are formed with la, las, or los, nor with the word él (he).

• The personal a - used before a direct object that refers to a specific person/people. This has no equivalent in English.

• e.g. Yo miro al profesor. (I look at the professor.)

• The preposition de is used to indicate possession.

• Spanish does NOT have 's.

• e.g. Es el libro de Juan. (It is Juan's book.)
