Clauses of concession

-are used to express contrast and are introduced by:

• but

• although/even though/though + clause

• in spite of/despite + noun /ing form - Despite the rainy weather, the fun run took place.

• in spite of/despite the fact that + clause: In spite of the fact that Coke is high in sugar, people still consume it.

• however/nevertheless - always a coma after them!!!

• while/whereas - He prefers spaghetti while/whereas his wife pasta.

• yet/still

• on the other hand

• having + past participle to show that the action happened before the result.
