“It’s such a nice day,” said Mom, “but it is so hot!” Jade and Matt felt hot, too.

Mom said, “I know! Let’s take a day off. We’ll skip the chores for now and go to the shore. Ask your pal Zane to go with us.”

“Yay! I like the shore,” said Matt. He got his big red shark, and Jade got her sand pail and spade.

Mom got the picnic basket from the porch. She filled it with food, plates, napkins, and forks. Then she and the three kids got into the car. Jade sat between Matt and Zane.

“Let’s sing as we go,” said Mom. As she drove, the kids started to sing about the beach. At last, the shore came into sight.

Then Matt and Zane got their swim vests. Matt got his big red shark. “Did you ever play Shark Tag?” he asked his pal. “That’s my game.” He ran into the sea with Zane.

Matt and Zane swam as Mom looked on. Matt swam hard and almost got to Zane. “Shark can’t tag me!” said Zane. And then Matt did it!

All too soon, it was almost dark. Matt got his shark. Jade got the spade, pail, and shells. Mom and Zane packed up the mat, picnic basket, and swim vests.

In the car, Matt said, “Let’s sing on the way home. And let’s make up beach games for next time.”

“This is the best day ever,” sighed Jade.
