51. 1st Grade SRR: Skit Jobs

“Have fun with this skit!” Miss Tan tells Meg and Cal.

“Jazz up the plot. Will Red Hen get mad at Cat and Dog? Will Red Hen be sad?”

Meg and Cal worked on the plot.

“Red Hen found big plums,” Cal tells Meg. “Then Red Hen had plum jam.” “But, Cal,” Meg tells him, “Red Hen has to get Cat and Dog to say Not I. Let her beg them to pick plums.”

“Yes, Meg, that is it!” said Cal.

“Let me jot that down. Red Hen begs Cat and Dog to pick plums, but Cat and Dog will not pick plums with Red Hen.”

“Red Hen is sad,” adds Meg.

Kids in class work on passes to Red Hen. Kids write Red Hen on passes. Other kids stick hens, cats, and dogs on them. Kids stack the Red Hen passes and slip them in bags.

When the Red Hen skit is as good as it can get, the class will sit around Cal and Meg on the rug. Cal and Meg will catch them up on the plot.

When Cal and Meg tell about Red Hen, Miss Tan claps. “Let us clap for them, class! This skit rocks!” Miss Tan tells them. “The passes and sets rock. I am glad that Red Hen will be such fun.”
