“Today I will fly at last!” said Gail. Gail went with her family to check in and get seats. Then she sat and waited.

“I can see our plane,” said Dad. “See it, Gail? It is that big jet right there.”

Mom, Dad, and Gail got on the plane. They had seats together in a row. Mom helped Gail with her seat belt.

Gail sat still. She waited and waited. She played with Ted.

“When will the plane go?” she asked.

Then Gail felt a bump as the plane started to move. Soon it rushed down the runway and lifted up into the sky.

“Look, Dad,” said Gail. “I can see the highway! We are up so high, it looks just like a thin line.”

A girl in a back row fussed. She started to cry. Gail did not make a fuss. She read, played games, and talked to Mom and Dad.

Gail felt warm on the plane. She started to doze off.

Gail slept after that. She woke up as the plane landed.

“That was so much fun!” said Gail. “We went so high and so fast! When will we fly back home?”

“We fly back in six days,” said Mom.

Gail, Dad, and Mom went outside to get a cab. In the road, Gail saw a big white gull.

“I can fly, gull!” she said.

“Did that gull just smile at you, Gail?” asked Mom. Gail gave Mom a big grin.
