The College holds a set of three drills (Fire, Earthquake, Lockdown)
twice a year.

✓ The first set is announced to all staff.

✓ The second is unannounced with only CLT members aware and

consulted for timing.

Fire

•JS office will place a pack on the ground by your
line up with a class list and a red/green card.

•When you are in position and have all students
or staff accounted for, please hold up the Green
Card and show the relevant coordinators that
you are all present and correct.

•The Head or Deputy Head of EY, JS, SS, and
Operations and Facilities will ensure that all
school members are present or account for
before reporting this information to the DBA or
Head of College.

•The only person that can end the fire drill is the
Head of College or his nominated deputy.

•It is essential that this is done in silence by everyone so that messages can be conveyed
if/when necessary.

What is a lockdown?
A lockdown situation means that
staff and students are secured
within the school building and no
one can enter or leave.

This might be because there is a
person who is of concern, civil
disturbance, death, or serious
injury on campus or because of
another environmental danger.

The Lockdown alarms
The lockdown alarm is a recorded message played over the school’s broadcast system. “this is a lockdown
procedure, please follow our lockdown protocols, go inside, lock the doors stay alert and wait for further
instructions” Repeated twice in English and Chinese then all repeated a second time.

How will I know the drill is over?
A verbal message from a CLT member will let you know when the drill is over, listen carefully for the annual code
word.
You will be asked to;

• return to the class you should be in
• go to your form room
• or evacuate to your schools’ muster point

Never leave if you hear the fire
alarm after the lockdown alarm.

Report the attendance on the lockdown Wechat.

Keep your phone on silent.

People on site not wearing a lanyard or visitor sticker.

• Politely stop them and ask them to put on their lanyard. If they have no lanyard

escort to security.

• Alert campus security on ex 9131 if they do not have a lanyard or refuse to put a

lanyard on.

• If the person on campus is appears dangerous or you feel uneasy, please call

campus security ex 9131 and they will find this person and begin screening for
identification.

Playground equipment requirements – for staff

To ensure the safety of the students during the use of the equipment, staff should do the following、

•Be clear on and understand how the equipment should be used.

•Supervise and guide students to use the equipment correctly (students are not allowed to climb outside the safety protection of play
equipment).

•In the process of using the play equipment, if any damage is found, it must be reported to Operations, the JS Office and Kathryn.

•To avoid accidents, students must not use damaged equipment.

•In the process of using play equipment, watch out for incorrect and potentially dangerous play and practices.

•Remind students about how to use the equipment safely and responsibly.

•If a student is repeatedly not using it correctly, they cannot play on it and need to be told to come off.

•Before using play equipment, teachers should explain to students the use rules of the equipment and relevant safety precautions to
enhance self-protection awareness.

•At the start of your duty, have a quick check of all the equipment to make sure it’s safe.

•Supervise and guide the number of students using the play equipment to avoid unnecessary safety hazards caused by too many students
using one equipment at the same time.

To ensure the safety of everyone when using the equipment, everyone must do the following:、

• If it affects lunchtime, the Teams message will direct you to your indoor duty positions.

Years 3 and 4:
•All students to go back to their classroom at the end of morning lessons.

•Class teachers/ATs (depending on if you have a duty) to bring the class to the canteen and make sure they sit
at their table.

•We will then send them up a class at a time to get lunch.

Years 5 and 6:
•Whistle to be blown at 12.55. (12.45 on Monday)

•Year 5 will use the atrium to walk themselves to lunch. Year 6 will use their stairs to walk themselves to lunch. Some students will grab their lunchboxes on route. Staff and prefects will be in the corridors.

We will control how/when they go up for 2nds – all classes need to be able to get their 1stplate before anyone
can go for more. (this includes the salad bar!) They will be told they need to raise their hand if they want more.

Allergies and being a ‘nut-free’ school

We do have several students and staff members who have allergies to certain foods:

nuts, mango, egg whites, milk

Reactions vary from coughing and sneezing to coming out in rashes.

We are a ‘nut-free’ school – this means no nuts of any sort can be brought into school.
Parents have reminders of this in the weekly newsletter.

If snacks are brought from home, they must be nut-free. This includes any birthday
cakes/cookies for sharing.

If a snack contains nuts, please take it from the student and contact their parents to let
them know that the snack they brought was not suitable for school.

If an incident takes place

If you need to send the child to a nurse during lunch or break, the nurse will give you an incident form to fill out which will then go home with the child.

If a child bumps their head they will have a sticker and a slip to go home. The teacher must tell the parent at the end of the day or email them if they are on the bus.

If the child does not come back to school the next day after an accident the teacher must contact the parents to find out how they are.

Concerns relating to Health and Safety

If you need to report a health and safety issue, please email Kathryn and copy Sylvia in.

If you need to send a child to the nurse at break/lunch, the nurse will send an incident report form for you to fill
in which will then go home with the child.

*please note, that a health and safety concern is different to a safeguarding concern. If you have a
