2
What are the characteristics of a proper fraction?
Characteristics of Fractions:
When the numerator is less than the denominator, the fraction is proper, i.e., less than unity (1). When the reverse is true, e.g., 5/2, the fraction is improper, i.e., greater than unity. When a fraction is written with a whole number, e.g., 3 1/2, the expression is called a mixed number.

The first step in multiplying fractions is to put what you're going to be multiplying in the same spot
For example: numerators should be with numerators and denominators should be with denominators
Multiplying Fractions
The second step is to simplify any numbers that you can...but be careful and mindful that you CANNOT simplify any numbers that are on the same line!
