Metrical Foot

A metrical foot is a basic unit of measurement in
poetry that consists of a combination of stressed
and unstressed syllables. It helps create rhythm and
structure in a poem.

For example:

-Today —> to - day

-The stress is on the second syllable.

-Together —> To - ge - ther

-The stress is on the second syllable.

Iambic Meter

An iamb is a metrical foot having two
syllables: the first unstressed and the
second stressed.

Pattern: Unstressed / Stressed

-The first syllable is unstressed and
the second is stressed.

the second is stressed.
