What Are Organelles?
Organelles are special structures found inside the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells (cells with a nucleus) that are surrounded by a membrane and have specific jobs. They play important roles in the life of a cell. In animal cells, some key organelles include the nucleus, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, vesicles, and vacuoles. Ribosomes, though not covered by a membrane, are also considered organelles in eukaryotic cells.
