What are Idioms?
An idiom is a common phrase which means something different from its literal meaning but can be understood because of their popular use. ... Idioms are not the same thing as slang. Idioms are made of normal words that have a special meaning known to almost everyone.
There are estimated to be at least 25,000 idiomatic expressions in the English language. Idioms evolve the language; they are the building blocks of a language and civilization. They also have great intensity to make a language exciting and dynamic.

Examples of Idioms
Idiom | Meaning | Usage |
|---|---|---|
A blessing in disguise | a good thing that seemed bad at first | as part of a sentence |
A dime a dozen | Something common | as part of a sentence |
Beat around the bush | Avoid saying what you mean, usually because it is uncomfortable | as part of a sentence |
Better late than never | Better to arrive late than not to come at all | by itself |
Bite the bullet | To get something over with because it is inevitable | as part of a sentence |
Break a leg | Good luck | by itself |
