How Ionic Bonds Form

Ionic bonds occur between metals, losing electrons (Valence), and nonmetals, gaining electrons (Valence). Ions with opposite charges will attract one another creating an ionic bond. Such bonds are stronger than hydrogen bonds, but similar in strength to covalent bonds.

3

Multiple Choice

Hydrogen Bonds Are Stronger Than Ionic

1

True

2

False

4

Multiple Choice

Ionic bonding is when

1

Atoms give up their inner most electrons

2

Compounds fuse through nucleation

3

Atom's valence electrons are transferred permanently to another atom

4

Coffee

5

Multiple Choice

Ionic bonds occur when metals...

1

Gain Electrons and Non-Metals Lose Electrons

2

Lose Electrons and Non-Metals Gain Electrons

3

Electrons move from outer energy levels to inner energy levels

4

MG-27

6

Attraction

Metals usually have little valence electrons while non-metals tend to have lots, this means metals tend to loose electrons because they'er less stable, while non-metals are stable and gain electrons.

7

Multiple Choice

Metallic Elements...

1

Are Less Stable, Gain Electrons

2

Are More Stable, Lose Electrons

3

Are Less Stable, Lose Electrons

4

Are More Stable, Gain Electrons

8

Multiple Choice

Non-Metals...

1

Gain Electrons, Are Stable

2

Lose Electrons, Aren't Stable

3

Gain Electrons, Aren't Stable

4
