4
Woah! That was a lot, right?
Yes, it was. This Unit had A LOT of topics and the Test was long! Now, let's get started on improving your Unit 3 Test grade!
5
6
Mean, Median, Mode, and Range
When finding Mean, Median, Mode, and Range, it is best to start by ordering your data from least to greatest!
7
Let's take a look at our first problem.
What are the mean, median, mode, and range of the data set 18, 19, 20, 21, 23, 26, 26, 26?
8
What are the mean, median, mode, and range of the data set 18, 19, 20, 21, 23, 26, 26, 26?
Notice the data set is already ordered from least to greatest.
Mean - find the sum & then divide by the amount of numbers in the data set (hint: there are 8 numbers in the data set).
Median - the middle number (hey diddle diddle, the median is in the middle)
Mode - which number occurs Most Often
Range - the difference between the highest and the lowest.
Take a few minutes to find the answers. You will answer on the next slide.

Line plot
A line plot is a graph that shows the shape of a data set with X's above each data value on a number line.
21
Line plot
The data below represent the ages of the first ten people in line at the movie theater. Which line plot represents the data?
22, 30, 23, 22, 27, 27, 29, 23, 30, 22
22
Line plot
The data below represent the ages of the first ten people in line at the movie theater. Which line plot represents the data?
22, 30, 23, 22, 27, 27, 29, 23, 30, 22
Remember our first step is to order our data from least to greatest!
23
Line plot
The data below represent the ages of the first ten people in line at the movie theater. Which line plot represents the data?
22, 30, 23, 22, 27, 27, 29, 23, 30, 22
Remember our first step is to order our data from least to greatest!
22, 22, 22, 23, 23, 27, 27, 29, 30, 30
24
Line Plot
Now that we have them ordered from least to greatest, we can use this to help us identify the appropriate line plot.
22, 22, 22, 23, 23, 27, 27, 29, 30, 30
Look at how many 22's you have - there are 3 22's. Look for the line plot that has 3 x's above the 22.
25
Multiple Choice
The data below represent the ages of the first ten people in line at the movie theater. Which line plot represents the data?
22, 30, 23, 22, 27, 27, 29, 23, 30, 22
Here's the data ordered from least to greatest:
22, 22, 22, 23, 23, 27, 27, 29, 30, 30
26
Stem-and-Leaf Plots
a convenient way to organize data using numerical order and place value. The digits to the left of the ones digits are called the stems; the ones digits for each stem are called the leaves
27
Stem-and-Leaf Plots
as with our other data sets, it's helpful to order the data from least to greatest before putting it into a stem-and-leaf plot.
28
Which stem-and-leaf plots represents the data 109, 60, 77, 54, 63, 84, 93, 65, 58, 97, 113?
First, let's order the data from least to greatest.
29
Which stem-and-leaf plots represents the data 109, 60, 77, 54, 63, 84, 93, 65, 58, 97, 113?
Now that the data is ordered from least to greatest, you can easily identify the stems and the leaves.
* Get ready to select the correct answer . . .

31
Scatter Plots
A graph that displays a collection of data points that shows relationships or trends between the two data sets.
You can use a scatter plot to look for a pattern of association (a trend) between two data sets. One of the values is shown on the x axis and the other is shown on the y axis of a coordinate plane.
32
Scatter Plots
The scatter plot shows the population of a village over time. The y-axis (or P) represents population and the x-axis (or t) represents time. Describe the relationship between the population of the village and time.
Is the population roughly staying the same over time? Is the population increasing or decreasing over time?
33
Multiple Choice

The population remans roughly the same over time.
The population is increasing over time.
The population is decreasing over time.

Circle Graphs
When finding the central angle, you need to find the percent and then multiply by 360 (degrees) to find the central angle for a particular part of of the graph.
44
Circle Graph Problem
A survey of 594 students about the sports program at school finds the following results:
495 students like the program.
99 students think the program is inadequate.
If a circle graph were made from the data, what would the measure of the central angle be for the group that thinks the program is inadequate?
45
What should we do first?
Our first step is to find the total number of students.
46
Open Ended
How many total students are there?
47
Open Ended
Next, we need to find how many students think the program is inadequate. How many students think the program is inadequate?
48
Open Ended
Let's write our ratio (fraction) of the number of students that think the program is inadequate to the total number of students that think the program is inadequate to the total number of students.
49
Let's turn that fraction into a decimal! Remember, we divide numerator by denominator to turn it into a decimal!
50
Now that we have our ratio in decimal form, we can multiply it by 360 degrees to find our central angle.
51
Now that you've multiplied, you have the central angle for the group that thinks the program is inadequate. Are you ready to select your answer on the next slide?

57.6 degrees
58 degrees
58.6 degrees
60 degrees
53
Frequency Tables
are tables that shows data values grouped into intervals and the frequency for each interval.
54

We have two questions to answer here.
55

What is our ratio of the children that chose oatmeal to the total number of children?
64
Now that we have our ratio, we need to turn it into a percent.
