Opposites

Subtraction sign = negative sign

When you see a negative sign it means the same thing as subtraction. The negative symbol and subtraction both mean move left on the number line.

​Subtraction = go left (or go in the opposite direction)

​1) 10 - 3

2) 5 - 4

​The (-) symbol doubles as subtraction and as a negative. In both cases, the (-) means to change directions.
