Syllables
Dividing Words by Syllables
A syllable is a unit of the word that has a vowel sound.
Say the word and carefully listen to the vowel sound. If the vowel is long it is an open syllable and is at the end of the syllable. It has one vowel sound. If the vowel is short and followed by a consonant it is a closed syllable.
