Manifest Destiny: Many Americans felt it was their destiny or the American democracy to take over the world. Many Americans started taking land West in the form of grants of the railroads, Homestead Act, and just wanting to get out of the cities from urbanization. Many Americans were living in cities and their crowdedness meant that some Americans wanted to go out West. There were some problems moving West: Native Americans lived West due to treaties with the American government, life was hard, and there were no real supports/amenities.
