In 1901, the first Nobel Peace Prizes were awarded to Henry Dunant and Frédéric Passy. Dunant was co- founder of the Red Cross and Passy was a peace activist. This came 5 years after Alfred Nobel passed away.

Document E: Dedication to Pope Paul III from Nicolaus Copernicus’s book Revolutions of the Heavenly Bodies, 1543
Nicolaus Copernicus dedicated his book Revolutions of the Heavenly Bodies to Pope Paul III. In the dedication, he explained to the pope that he waited to publish his book because he thought religious leaders would call him a heretic for his theory that the Earth revolves around the Sun.
