est is a verb in Latin. Most verbs in Latin end with -t.
ex. Caecilius est pater. = Caecilius is the father.

There is no Latin word for the or a/an.
You will have to add those words in when necessary while translating.
Caecilius est pater. = Caecilius is THE father.
NOT: Caecilius is father.
