MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION

C3a. Evaluation: Expectations

I was anxious to hear the teachers perspective on the states SOL requirements because as a parent it can be very frustrating during that time of the school year. It was very interesting to hear her perspective and also somewhat comforting as a parent to hear it is just as stressful as a teacher at that time. I did not know all the different courses that were available free of charge on the DOE website so that was definitely something new and exciting to find out. I was interested in hearing how much of what she said coincided with my previous thinking and knowledge on different subject matter.

C5ai: Understanding the Teacher’s Role

This interview opened my mind to the way teaching is done at charter schools. They are a very data driven school, with high expectations for their students. The teachers at this school seem to want to take in every kind of professional development they can to become a better teacher. I enjoyed learning about the ways that things are done at a charter school and how the state standards are very important to the staff. C5ai: Understanding the Teacher's Role

Overall, this interview made me more aware of what it takes to be a teacher. It is not just about the standards, data, and groups attended. It is about developing within yourself and learning how to pour yourself in to a group of students and help them learn and be successful in the best way possible. I did, however, learn how important standards are and what it takes to stay on top of those daily. I think this interview made me more self-aware and gave me a better outlook of what a teaching career may look like for me in the future. The only thing I would change in another interview would be strategies for coping with rough days in the classroom or when a classroom with struggling to meet a standard.
