Indigenous people, otherwise known as aboriginal people are ethnic groups who are the original owners and caretakers of a given region.

The creative crafts of the Philippines refer to the works of art that have developed and accumulated in the country from the beginning of civilization up to the present era.

Indigenous creative crafts in the Philippines refer to those art forms which were practiced long before the Spanish conquest of 1565, hence these are also known as precolonial creative crafts.

The term indigenous as used in the Philippines refers to ethnolinguistic groups or subgroups that maintain this so-called “warrior” culture and traditional animistic faith. They still live in partial isolation, or independence, throughout the colonial era.

Indigenous could refer to something produced, growing, living, or occurring  natively or naturally in a particular region or environment, such as indigenous plants and animals and indigenous culture.

A craft is an activity such as weaving, carving, or pottery that involves making things skillfully with the hands; it could refer to a pastime or a profession that requires particular manual skills and knowledge of making goods.

A craft becomes creative if it involves the making of something aesthetic, something that is considered beautiful. If the craft is bin excellent quality, it could be described as having craftsmanship.

A handicraft (artisanal handicraft or handmade) is any of a wide variety of types of work where functional and decorative objects are made completely by one’s hand (hence the term handicraft) or by using only simple, non-tech related tools like scissors, carving implements, or hooks.

Applied arts or functional arts are the application of design and decoration to everyday objects to make them aesthetically pleasing e.g. industrial design, graphic design, fashion design, interior design, decorative arts, culinary arts, architecture and photography.

Artisans are also called craftsmen. It refers to a person with excellent skill trade in creating an item with craftsmanship and aesthetic value.

Knowledge and practice of these creative crafts are learned by the younger generation not by formal education but by imitation and informal instructions by the older generations. Hence these crafts are considered tradition.
