How can I correct a run-on sentence?

Use a period (.) to separate independent clauses into two sentences,

or, use a coordinating conjuction to combine the two independent clauses.

Example: I saw a photo of the mountain. It looked very high.

or

I saw a photo of the mountain, and it looked very high.

Be careful!

  • Do not use a comma to combine independent clauses.

  • Use a period to separate them.

  • Run-on sentence: A new student arrived yesterday, he is from Spain. (incorrect)

  • A new student arrived yesterday. He is from Spain. (correct)
