History of Gymnastics
Modern gymnastics began in the 1820s
The first gym club was built in America in 1850
in 1888, the Amateur Gymnastics Association was founded in England
Men's Gymnastics was one of the original seven sports included in the first modern olympics held in Athens 1896.
Women were included in competition starting in 1928

Training Required
Training seriously typically begins at age 8.
Currently, particularly Romania and Russia dominate the international gymnastics scene.
These countries tend to begin training at a younger age.

Two types of gymnastics most commonly seen in competition.
Artistic gymnastics
Rhythmic gymnastics

Rhythmic is a mix of acrobatics, juggling and ballet.
