Diversity of Life

By Coach Wilson

2

3

Unicellular versus Multicellular

Subject | Subject

Unicellular organisms are made up of only one cell that carries out all of the functions needed by the organism, while multicellular organisms use many different cells to function.

4

Autotrophs versus heterotrophs

Autotrophs are known as producers because they are able to make their own food from raw materials and energy. Examples include plants, algae, and some types of bacteria. Heterotrophs are known as consumers because they consume producers or other consumers. Dogs, birds, fish, and humans are all examples of heterotrophs.

Domains and Kingdoms of Life

Domain Archaea and Domain Bacteria

media

28

There are 3 domains of life.

  • Domain Archaea

  • Domain Bacteria

  • Domain Eukarya (coming soon)

29

There are 6 kingdoms of life.

  • Kingdom Archaebacteria

  • Kingdom Eubacteria

  • Kingdom Protista

  • Kingdom Fungi

  • Kingdom Plantae

  • Kingdom Animalia

30

Each organism is either an autotroph or heterotroph.

  • Autotroph means that the organism makes its own food for nutrition.

  • Heterotroph means that the organisms must eat in order to get their nutrition.

  • ALWAYS prokaryotic

  • Unicellular organisms

  • Most common and found almost everywhere!

  • Some are an autotroph and others are heterotroph
