Before you start, label the genres throughout the test and which questions
go to each!

Always remember:

You do not have to take the test in order.

If this helps you, flip through and do the passages that you are better at.

For example, if you know that poems are hard for you, skip the poem

section so that you aren't wasting time.

If you know that you are better at informational, go find those first.

Strongest Genre First!

Annotating is when the reader adds notes and explanations to parts of the text.

Always remember:

Some of you can read an entire passage and not know what you read.

If you face this problem, you need to STOP after every couple paragraphs
and think about what you are reading.

You can also make notes of what you read as you go, called annotations.

This will force your brain to stop and understand before moving on,
rather than wasting time reading things multiple times.

Choose 2 Questions

Make sure that if the question says to select 2 answers
that you are doing so.

If you only put one, even if it was one of the answers, it
will be wrong.

If you choose one correct and one incorrect answer, it
is also wrong.

In English 1, you will have a time limit on your test.

If you are running out of time, choose ONE ANSWER and put that
answer for all of your guesses. (EX: C,C,C,C.)

This will give you a greater chance of getting some of them correct.

Pay attention to your time. Do not take too long on one question or
one passage. MOVE ON.

If you skip a question, mark it on your answer sheet so that you can
come back to it.
