Reducing wastage
Both water and electricity are very important to both domestic and commercial situations.
We use water to drink, cook, wash, clean, heat, cool and carry out many industrial processes.
We use electricity as a primary power source to light our homes, power items within our homes and carry out many industrial processes.

Both water and electricity are a finite resource. There is only a limited amount to be shared around, but we all demand more of both.
Utility costs are rising and we need to be able to conserve water in domestic dwellings.

Reducing wastage
Flow Reducing Valve or Pressure Reducing Valve
A pressure reducing valve helps to regulate water pressure on plumbing systems. If water pressure is too high or is fluctuating it can affect the performance and lifespan of heating and hot water systems. It can also impact on other products around the home that are fed by mains water.

Reducing Wastage
Low volume WC flush:
This is recommended in The Water Regulations and has been reduced
in volume over the years. Now UK toilets quite often have dual flushes
to reduce wastage.
Reduced from 2 gallons or
9lts down to a maximum of
6lts today with a part flush
of 4lts.

This prevents the waste of water from float operated valves. These
need to shut off when the correct water level has been reached, and if they don’t water will be discharged from the over flow and wasted.

Simple things like:
•use a shower instead of a bath
•part fill a kettle when boiling.

Energy efficient lights:
Customers are becoming far more
cost conscious. Compared to a
conventional light bulb, one of
these bulbs only uses 30% of the
power, the other saves 30%.
Both conserve energy.

Energy efficient equipment:
Just like buying an economical car, people need to be aware of buying efficient equipment.
Nowadays, products come with an
efficiency indicator as part of the
manufacturer’s instructions and
packages. It shows a European
Energy Label, or after January 1st 2021 a British label.
