Assignments
●
A minimum of 9 and a maximum of 22 separate graded
assignments - exclusive of homework (HW) and the
quarterly assessment (QA) - are allowed each marking
period. This is up to your teachers’ discretion.
●
For seniors in MP4, a minimum of 6 grades are required, in
addition to HW and QA
●
A maximum of 1 assessment will have a due date during the
last week of the marking period. This excludes the QA.

Assignments - Category Weights
●
Quarterly Assessment: 10%
●
Homework (required for English, Math, Science,
Social Studies, and World Language courses,
optional for all others): 10%
●
Assessments: 30-50% (to be determined by
content team)
●
A minimum of 4 assignments must be recorded in
each category, excluding QA.

Late Work Policy
●
An assignment not submitted at the due date is considered
late.
●
Students receive a penalty of 10% per class period up to 4
class periods after the due date.
●
If a student submits work within this timeframe (4 class
periods), they will still receive applicable teacher feedback.
●
An assignment submitted after class period 4, but on or
before class period 7 may receive an automatic 50% and
teacher feedback is not required.
●
Assignments submitted after class period 7 may be recorded
as a 0%.

Assignments - Good Faith Effort
●
Assignments must meet the minimum mastery requirement.
●
Teachers will assign a minimum grade of 50% for all graded
work in which the student demonstrates a good faith effort.

●Students have 2 opportunities for redo per marking period.
●Redos are available from the Assessment category only.
●If a student does not turn in work on the due date, the
assignment/assessment is ineligible for redo.
●Teachers determine if reteaching is required.
●If reteaching is required, students must complete that
reteaching and submit the redo within 10 school days of
receiving the returned original graded work.
●If reteaching is not required, students must submit the redo
within 5 school days of receiving the returned original
graded work.
●HW, QAs and assignments given during the final week of
the marking period are ineligible (not eligible) for redo.

Recording Student Progress
● Teachers shall enter graded work in the electronic
gradebook and return the work to students within 5
school days of it being submitted to the teacher.
● Teachers are expected to communicate with students
and parents/guardians when and if certain lengthy
assignments require longer than 5 school days to
grade.
● Communication must be made for students who are in
danger of failing (D or E), or dropping the equivalent of
two or more letter grades (20 percentage points) at
any point during the marking period.

1. Value of “E” for marking period grades is

Review
The following slides contain questions about the grading policy. Please review the
slides with students through one of the following activities:
1. Assemble your class into groups. Present a slide with the question on the
SmartBoard. Have a group member write down the answer on a piece of paper
and submit the answer to you after reading the question. Keep track of which
groups answers the most questions correctly.
2. Present a question slide to the class. Have students write their answer on a
whiteboard with an expo marker. Review the answer with the class on the next
slide.
3. 4 Corners- Present the slide to the class. Designate a corner of the room for
each answer choice. Ask students to move to the corner of the room that has the
correct answer to the corresponding question.
