How to Cite Evidence

  1. Find strong evidence from the text that supports the prompt.

  2. Use quotation marks ( "example") for direct quotes.

  3. Explain how the evidence supports your idea (this is called analysis)

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Forgetting to put quotation marks around direct quotes.

  • Not explaining how your evidence supports your claim.

  • Using weak evidence or unrelated evidence.
