Read Detectives in Togas -Chapters 3-5

Assigned Reading:

Seven boys attend the elite Xanthos School in Rome, taught by the ill-tempered Greek mathematician Xanthos (“Xantippus”). After Caius pokes Rufus, Rufus retaliates by hanging a tablet that says “Caius is a dumbbell.” Xantippus expels Rufus. Rufus leaves and is later seen running down a side street; the next morning both Rufus and Caius are absent, and Xantippus doesn’t show up. The remaining boys speculate—even suspecting the soothsayer Lukos—until they hear muffled groans from Xantippus’s quarters behind a curtain.
