Body Systems Review/Health

This system consists of a group of structures that give your body parts the power to move. There are three types of muscles in the body, smooth, cardiac and skeletal. Muscles are triggered by messages or impulses causing contraction and relaxation.

This is your body’s message and control center. There are two main divisions of this system: the Central Nervous System (brain and spinal cord) and Peripheral Nervous System (nerves that connect to the rest of the body). The PNS sends the information to the CNS it gathers. The CNS examines the information and then sends directions back to the PNS on how to respond.

This system consists of organs that supply the body with constant oxygen and rid the body of carbon dioxide. Also known as respiration.

This system converts fuel from food into usable energy for our body’s cells and tissues. This system also helps control the elimination of waste from the body.

This system is made up of bones, joints and connective tissue. It provides a strong framework capable of movement and protects delicate internal organs. This system also produces the body’s blood cells and stores minerals, such as calcium.

This system consists of glands that secrete chemical substances that communicate with other systems, organs and tissues to control many body functions. Major glands of this system are the pituitary gland, parathyroid, adrenals, pineal body and reproductive glands. Hormones are an example of a chemical substance this system releases.

This system is a group of organs and tissues that move essential supplies to body cells and remove their waste products, otherwise known as circulation. This system is also called the cardiovascular system.

This body system contains the organs that make possible the production of offspring. Sperm is the male sex cell. An egg is the female sex cell. Fertilization happens when a male’s sperm cell joins with a female’s egg cell.
