Communicable Disease Act and related legislation

According to Communicable Disease Act (1227/2016), quarantine means

• Isolating a person or baggage who has been exposed to or suspected of having been exposed to a pathogen, to the confines of his or her home or some other designated location.

• Isolating a person, baggabe or other goods. Quarantine place needs to be at least general hospital level unit.

• Maximum lenght of quarantine is 6 months.

• Maximum lenght is 1 month and the infectious disease doctor can extend it by a month.

According Communicable Disease Act, isolation means...

Health-care associated infections

• The aim of Act (1227/2016) is to prevent health-care associated infections by supervising and monitoring these infections.

• can be prevented only in the intensive care unit.

National Infectious Disease Register (NIDR)

• The physician must file a communicable disease notification to the NIDR within seven days.

• The physician must file a communicable disease notification to the NIDR within three days.

• The laboratory will report the findings to the NIDR no later than 3 days after the finding is confirmed.

• The laboratory also remind physician to notify the findings to NIDR.

In order to prevent the spread of the disease, a person who has or is justifiably suspected of having a generally hazardous or monitored communicable disease is obliged to provide the physician investigating the matter with information regarding his or her view of the manner, date and place of infection, as well as the names of persons who may have been the source of infection or may have been infected.
