How does Lewin's force field analysis function?

A template is used to organise thinking. It is used to record the forces that support change and those that create resistance to change.

These forces are reviewed and rated according to their importance. The rating could be out of five, the higher the rating the more important the force has on the proposed change.

A proposal looks viable if the force for change scores higher than the force against change. The analysis lists the forces that can be supported and built on and the forces against change that can be managed and reduced.

If the forces against change result is greater, the management may be able to find ways to reduce them.

The analysis also assists management to develop action plans that exploit the forces for change and reduce the forces against change.
